Unani Medicine

It has routed through different countries from ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt and Greece to Arabia, Medieval Europe, central Asia, Persia and India etc. its scholarship was trans regional and based on traditional philosophy and Arabic language.

While being practiced in entire Middle East, Europe, south Asia and south East Asia significant contributions of Greek scholars, Arab scholars, and Persian scholars are part of history. Being introduced in India along the 8th century.

Since its introduction in India many centuries back and India continuous contribution for the propagation and development of the system which led to its global recognition, most importantly the Golden Era.

The Golden era of resonance of UNANI MEDICINE in India is pre and post-independence contributions of Indian scholars or Unani physicians like Akber Arzani, Azam khan, Nizams of Deccan, Shareef khan and Hakim Ajmal khan who contributed immensely by setting up teaching institutions, set up pharmacies to cater the ever-growing demand of producing Unani medicine, set up Hospital most importantly teaching Hospital more ever research institutions.
Hakim Ajmal khan (Father of renaissance of Unani Medicine in pre and post-independence) has set up phytochemical lab and study the different molecules and Alkaloids present in herbal drugs.

Unlike other systems including the modern medicine which undergone civilizational changes across regions and immensely contributed to the ailing masses which also got enriched by their significant contributions of ancient physicians of all ages and territories ,finally the system has developed from the empirical to the evidence based Medicine. Since it has immensely contributed by the Egypt ,Greece to Persian Arabic ,Europe ,central Asia it has trans regional history finally into India which has full fledge system of Health and healing. Teaching institutions, Teaching hospitals, Primary Health Centers, Research institutions, preclinical and clinical safe studies data management are the part of present era.

The UNANI medicine with its all infrastructure and glory recognized as “UNANI MEDICINE” in various parts of the countries including India, which is finally developed into most needed dimensions of university certification, regulated syllabus, creation of teaching institutions ,creation of volumes of text, set up of teaching Hospitals, Bedside clinic teaching and training development of pharmacopeias professional registration, primary Health Center to tertiary Hospitals ,setting up of research institutions, publication of journals ,Holding CME programs and medical conferences as source of dissemination of knowledge.
Though the Unani system of medicine has a global and trans regional flow like Egypt, Greece, Persia, and Europe to Arabian territories and Indian subcontinent.
