About Us
Dr. Waheed, Padma shree recipient 2017, graduated in Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) from Osmania University, Hyderabad in the year 1979. He acquired clinical research training from University of Los Angles California, USA., AIIMS New Delhi, KEM Medical College, Mumbai.
Professional Responsibilities:
Dr. Waheed was formerly heading Central Research Institute of Unani Medicine Hyderabad under the aegis of CCRUM, Ministry of AYUSH Govt. of India, Member B.O.G. CCIM. Has expertise in Phase-II and Phase-III clinical trials as per WHO/USFDA GCP guidelines. coordinated multi-centric clinical trials of Unani medicines on Vitiligo.,Diabetes, Hypertension and Hepatitis with seven Institutions under CCRUM located across India viz. CRI-Hyderabad, RRI-Chennai, RRI-Mumbai, RRI-Aligarh, RRI-New Delhi, CRI-Lucknow and RRI-Srinagar.
Publications:
Dr. Waheed has published 38 research papers in National/International journals and presented more than 67 research papers in National/International conferences. He has delivered over 164 lectures at various scientific platforms.
He is associated with various scientific associations as Indian Society of Analytical Scientist (CSIR-IICT), Biomarker Society of India. He guided graduate and post graduate students from different disciplines of Unani, Pharmacy, Biochemistry and Genetics. He has contributed for publishing four monographs on Vitiligo, Hepatitis and Sinusitis. He has significantly contributed towards seeking IPR of five formulations through CCURM. He is the member of various task force committees such as Unani Pharmacopoeial Committee; Sub-committee on stability studies of Unani formulations, Member Doctoral Committee of Mahavir Hospital & Research Centre, Hyderabad.

Awards
Outstanding contribution award conferred to Dr. Waheed by Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine for outstanding contribution for institution development. September 2015. Recipient of first Hakeem Ajmal Khan Global Award, recipient of Hakim Ahmed Ashraf global award.
Dr. Waheed is the recipient of prestigious Best Scientist Award conferred by AIIMS New Delhi towards significant contribution for system development in the year 2014.
Best Scientist Award for overall best performance by Dept. of AYUSH (2005). Award for overall Best Performance in Scientific Seminar of CCRUM (1985). Best Paper & Presentation Award in Scientific Seminar of CCRUM at New Delhi (1995) and at Aligarh (1985). He also shared the Rolling Shield for best performance in Clinical Research of CCRUM in 1985 and 1995.
He has widely traveled over the world to promote Unani System of Medicine globally. VIsited San Diego, USA as Mission member to India Pavilion at BIO 2014.

Projects:
Dr. Waheed was coordinating over 160 Research Projects at CRIUM Hyderabad in the domain of Preclinical (in vitro and in vivo), Clinical Research, Development of Unani Pharmacopoeial drug standardization, medicinal plants and formulation development. He was coordinating collaborative research programmes with various Institutions such as ICMR-NIN Hyderabad, CSIR-IIIM Jammu, NIPER Hyderabad.
Dr. Waheed played a pivotal role as Principal Investigator for the establishment of state of the art facility for research with joint funding from CCRUM and DST (INR 5.22 crore). The infrastructure created at CRIUM Hyderabad is being utilized under various facilities/labs as in vitro cell culture facility, molecular biology facility, drug standardization and quality control laboratory equipped with modern analytical techniques, pharmacokinetic laboratory, pharmacodynamic laboratory, data management and archival facility. He played instrumental role in the implementation of research projects at CRIUM Hyderabad under Intra Mural Research Policy of CCRUM, Ministry of AYUSH. Eight projects have been awarded to CRIUM under his leadership in 2014. These projects encompass the preclinical & clinical evaluation of Unani formulations, development of fingerprint profile of Unani formulation using analytical markers with modern analytical techniques such as UPLC. Additionally, he was coordinating establishment of preclinical research facility for safety and efficacy evaluation of Unani formulations as per the regulatory requirements with emphasis on neuropsychopharmacology. Dr. Waheed extensively promoted and implemented widespread use of Hindi at CRIUM Hyderabad as an Official Language.
As a clinician, Dr. Waheed has significantly contributed in the field of vitiligo. He has significantly contributed and developed about 17 Unani formulations (oral as well as topical) for the effective management of vitiligo. He is a strong advocator of an integrated approach for the management of stubborn diseases and developed the integrated treatment approach for vitiligo and other chronic disorders. He is striving to create evidence based data in support of Unani system of medicine in order to fulfill the regulatory requirements and to generate world class infrastructure for research to promote the traditional medicine across the globe.
Dosiers. Developed 4 drug dosiers in the treatment of vitiligo and 2 dosiers of Hepatitis. The above dosiers were also discussed with ICMR high power committee for colloborative studies.
Presently engaged on developing new regimens for autoimmune disorders.
